![]() The writing isn't anything terribly special, at least in the first entry, but it still paints a believable picture of humanity brought to its knees and the brave individuals doing all they can to stand it back up. ![]() Humanity had already left its mark on Sera, but the Locusts' effect on the planet is even more noticeable. The entire premise of humanity warring against a seemingly unstoppable force caught my attention early on, but wandering through the remnants of half-destroyed cities and witnessing the unbelievable carnage this war has already caused further solidified my interest in the Gears of War franchise. You'll slowly learn more about Fenix and the rest of his squad, new and old, as the game progresses. Fenix is rough and no-nonsense, a pretty standard personality for these kinds of games, but I nonetheless really enjoyed Fenix's character for his ability to remain calm under pressure and to complete the job despite how COG has burned him in the past. You're freed from prison to embark on a new mission: to recover valuable tech that could help turn the tide in this never-ending conflict. You play as Marcus Fenix, an imprisoned ex-Gear who had fought against the Locusts in the past. The Coalition of Ordered Governments, or COG, has united the remnants of humanity on Sera and taken the lead in this brutal war, deploying its soldiers, known as Gears, to fight back against the Locusts. ![]() The first Gears of War is set 14 years after "Emergence Day" on the planet Sera, where a mysterious race known as the Locusts have declared war on humanity and have devastated the planet's population. It dried firm and glossy and did not smear or smoosh when I layered my cookies on a serving platter and covered them with plastic wrap for transport. My cookies were iced very quickly this way. I was even able to dip some of the cookies so they had multiple colors on them by dipping one color, allowing it to dry and dipping the next color. Instead of spreading it on with a spatula or putting it in a piping bag, I placed it in bowls with wide rims and held my cookies upside down and dipped them in. The icing was just what I needed as I didn't really want to make a batch of royal icing. I did chill my dough well in addition to cooling my cookie sheet down between batches. I subbed all vanilla as I am not a fan of almond flavoring. Mine actually baked up perfectly with a little crunch on the outside while the inside was softer. The flavor is buttery without being too rich or sweet - the perfect foil for the icing. I too was set to try a different recipe when I came across this one. Paint the icing over the cookies using a brush, or dip edges of cookies into icing.Add in food colouring until desired intensity is achieved.Divide into as many separate bowls as you wish for different colours.Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until the icing is smooth and glossy (if the icing is too thick add in a small amount more of corn syrup). For the frosting in a small bowl mix the confectioners sugar with milk (start with 1-2 tablespoons, you will likely need more milk for the perfect spreading consistency).Remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely before icing.Place cookies 2-inches apart on cookie sheet.Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. ![]()

I picked out a few different shells from my collection and started to arrange them on the sand. So if you want the teal sand to stick around you’ll need to add more than I did… just a heads up. Then I added a sprinkling of the teal sand as a cute touch to tie in the teal of the waves… but after adding the resin the teal sand wasn’t really visible. Which basically means I poured quite a bit of sand at the bottom and then gradually tapered it off about halfway up the window pane. That means the sand needs to go fairly far up the beach, under the clear water into the light teal area. We’ll start with clear over the sand and then go to a light teal, then a darker teal, and finally to a navy. In order to make the “water” as lifelike as possible we’ll have a gradient of teals and blues for the waves.
